The course will provide a survey on the nature of the coordinative bond and on the electronic structure of coordination compounds.
The most widely employed techniques for the characterization of coordination compounds will be presented with a focus on the interpretation of the data. An overview of the correlations between the chemical structure of transition metal and lanthanoid systems and functional properties of relevance for life and material sciences will be given.
