This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the European 
Union’s funding programmes, focusing on how EU policy priorities are 
translated into financial instruments under the Multiannual Financial 
Framework (MFF). Students will explore the evolution of EU budget 
policies from a historical perspective and gain knowledge of the main 
funding programmes in the 2021–2027 period, with insights into 
anticipated changes for 2028–2034. The curriculum covers both shared-
management funds (like Cohesion Policy funds) and directly-managed 
programmes (e.g. research and innovation funding), with a core 
emphasis on the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 
European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).
