This course explores the relationship between landscape planning and urbanization, focusing on how spatial patterns, ecological processes, and infrastructure systems interact to shape sustainable urban environments. Students will examine the mutual influences between cities and landscapes, with particular attention to hydrological systems, ecological infrastructure, and the transformation of traditional “gray” infrastructure into multifunctional, sustainable systems.

Through theoretical frameworks and case studies from diverse geographic and political contexts, the course introduces strategies for integrating ecological functions into urban planning and technological infrastructure. Emphasis is placed on sustainability, resilience, and public engagement, equipping students with the tools needed to design and manage landscapes that enhance urban wellbeing and ecological balance.
