1. An introduction to The Grammar Test
The Grammar Test is an obligatory component of Lingua Inglese 1,
which must be passed by September 2019 in order to proceed to the second
year course, Laboratorio di Lingua Inglese. There are three exam
sessions, one in January, one in June and one in September.
To help students evaluate their level of English, students will sit a mock Grammar Test, which is an actual past paper, during their first TEXTS lesson. The results are given back the following week, so that students can have immediate feedback in order to see if they are at a corresponding level for the course. The purpose of the mock Grammar Test is to give students
the opportunity to assess whether their English corresponds to the basic
entry requirements for this course.
Three grades are given for the Final Grammar Test:
A self-evaluation in Week 1 has a similar grading system. Only those
students who get 60% or higher on the self evaluation may take the actual Grammar Test in
January 2018. Students who are awarded a
low or very low mark will be advised to sit the test the following June, or even
September. These students will be required to
meet their Writing teacher to discuss whether they should continue with English in this course. A failing grade is an indication that the course, at least for this year, may well be too difficult for the student to complete successfully.
